My name is Vigdís M. Jónsdóttir, and I am a clinical psychologist with a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Reykjavik University. I have worked with a diverse range of clients – both within the public sector and in private practice. My areas of expertise include the treatment of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, neurodiversity, and ADHD diagnosis. In my work, I take a collaborative and individualized approach, guided by each person’s unique goals and needs. My therapy is grounded in evidence-based methods, primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). In recent years, I have placed increasing emphasis on the physiological factors that influence mental health, and I am further specializing in an emerging field known as metabolic psychiatry. This approach explores how factors such as nutrition, sleep, movement, and metabolism affect emotional well-being – particularly for individuals with long-term symptoms that have not improved with conventional treatment. I have completed the Ketogenic Diets for Mental Health Clinician Training Program (2025) led by Dr. Georgia Ede, which focuses on the therapeutic use of ketogenic nutrition as an adjunct in the treatment of mental health conditions. Today, I offer psychological therapy that considers both psychological and physiological aspects when relevant. The goal is always the same: to support you in achieving greater well-being, balance, and quality of life in your everyday experience.
The ADHD assessment process begins with an initial screening interview. This conversation provides an opportunity to discuss current challenges, strengths, and relevant background information related to the ADHD diagnosis. The purpose of the screening is to explore whether the difficulties described are consistent with ADHD and whether a comprehensive diagnostic assessment is recommended, potentially incorporating techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy.
The process is designed to be thorough yet supportive, helping to clarify next steps and ensure that any further evaluation is meaningful, tailored to individual needs, and considers aspects of metabolic psychiatry.
My approach emphasizes holistic care, exploring the connection between mind and body, particularly in relation to ADHD diagnosis. Treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), along with complementary techniques such as relaxation, mindfulness, and breathing exercises.
In addition, my work integrates physiological factors that can influence mental health through metabolic psychiatry. This includes ketogenic therapy, which is part of a framework aimed at supporting brain metabolism by utilizing ketones as an alternative energy source.
This perspective seeks to improve mitochondrial function, reduce inflammation, balance neurotransmitters (such as the GABA/glutamate ratio), and enhance neural stability. Ketogenic therapy has been used as an adjunct to conventional treatment for individuals experiencing persistent psychiatric symptoms, including those related to ADHD, that have been difficult to address through traditional means. Research findings suggest significant improvements in mood, cognition, and metabolic health among those living with conditions such as depression and psychotic disorders.
The goal of this integrated approach is to provide care that considers both psychological and physiological dimensions, combining the strengths of established therapeutic methods like cognitive behavioral therapy with emerging insights from nutrition and metabolic science.
All appointments are offered remotely, making it easy to access therapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy, and ADHD assessments or an ADHD diagnosis from the comfort of your own space, while also considering metabolic psychiatry.
